Official Business

This forum is for the discussion of proposed amendments to the RV-C protocol. The RV-C protocol is continuously expanding as new products are conceived and developed. RVIA members may submit proposals to the RVIA Technical Subcommittee. These proposals will be posted here for comment, and after thirty days subjected to an e-mail ballot of the committee membership. Anyone may comment on the submissions, although only full members may vote. Please do not post submissions directly here. Send your submissions to Kent Perkins at the RVIA so that they may be properly introduced as official committee business. The webmaster shall initiate the forum topic.

3.3.2 Source Address claiming

Justification: Correct inconsistency in present language (Shall — and then list of exceptions). Also add more clarity around Dynamic ACL process, specifically with regards to trial node addresses. Allow for supplier flexibility to optimize system startup time, as well as interaction with J1939 base ACL process. Offer suggestions for remembering assigned node ID at next startup, to reduce traffic, as well as document behaviors if no node Address can be found.

3.2.4.3b Global Requests for Certain DGNs.

Justification: A global request for DGN can generate a lot of traffic, especially if the DGN is universally supported. We do not want to completely ban global requests, but limit their use to avoid DGNs that might cause a traffic jam.

Text: Insert immediately after Table 3.2.4.3b.

"Global requests may generate large bursts of traffic and should be used only in limited circumstances. They are specifically not allowed for requests to PRODUCT_ID, ADDRESS_CLAIM, and DM_RV."

6.2.1 General Purpose Reset

Justification:
Adding a command to save the current settings loaded onto the device. Pairs with ‘Reset to OEM-Specific Settings, which can reset the settings to the saved settings via the new command.
